At MGH, initial affection status was based on DSM-IIIR criteria but lifetime DSM-IV-TR criteria was confirmed with Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children Epidemiologic Version (K-SADSE) at follow-up assessments. At UCLA, children and adolescents were assessed using the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children-Present and Lifetime version (K-SADS-PL). At WASH-U subjects were assessed with the Missouri Assessment of Genetics Interview for Children (MAGIC), a semi-structured psychiatric interview allowing DSM-III, DSM-IV, and ICD-10 diagnoses. Cases were excluded if they were positive for any of the following: neurological disorder, head injury resulting in concussion, lifetime diagnoses of schizophrenia or autism. With regard to cognitive ability, MGH and UCLA subjects with estimated Full Scale IQ was <80 or <70, respectively were excluded while subjects at WASH-U were excluded if parents reported mental retardation.
