Norton, G. R., Harrison, B., Hauch, J., & Rhodes, L.. (2012). The Panic Attack Questionnaire. Measurement Instrument Database for the Social Science. Retrieved 23.07.2020 from www.midss.ie Key references: Norton, G. R., Harrison, B., Hauch, J., & Rhodes, L. (1985). Characteristics of people with infrequent panic attacks. Journal of Abnormal Psychology, 94, 216-221. Primary use / Purpose: The Panic Attack Questionnaire is a commonly-used self-report tool for assessing panic attacks, including features of panic, symptoms, cognitions, triggers, and coping strategies. Background: The PAQ is a comprehensive tool that aims to for assess various aspects of panic phenomenology. It begins by providing respondents with a definition of panic attacks (according to DSM-III) to create a common understanding of the construct. From there, participants construct their self-assessment. It collects information about participant's frequency of panic attacks and the context in which they arose, as well as intensity of pain symptoms. The final section of the questionnaire consists of open-ended questions about medication use, stress, and treatment received for other illnesses or disorders. Psychometrics: The PAQ has been demonstrated to have good convergent validity with the Beck Anxiety Inventory (Cox, Cohen, Direnfeld, & Swinson, 1996). In this questionnaire we will ask you questions about panic attacks and your history of anxiety problems. A panic attack is the sudden onset of intense fear or terror, often associated with feelings of impending doom, that is not a result of a real danger. Some of the most common symptoms experienced during an attack are: dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain or discomfort, and trembling or shaking. A panic attack differs from feelings of fear, anxiety, or worry that build up over time, and also differs from moderate feelings of fear or anxiety. Rather, it involves quick hitting feelings of extreme terror or fear. 1. To the best of your knowledge, have any of the following members of your family experienced panic attacks? If you do not have a son or daughter, etc., please check "not applicable".
