Beschreibung
The International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) is a questionnaire about the disease benign prostatic hyperplasia. This questionnaire was created in 1992 by the American Urological Association, the original name was "AUA symptom score" or "AUA-7" (American Urological Association symptom score 7). For each of the seven symptoms, zero to five points are awarded: Residual urinary sensation, urge to urinate again two hours after last toilet visit, urinary stuttering, inability to postpone urination, weak urinary stream, urination pressure and frequency of urination at night. According to this point system, patients are divided into those with mild (IPSS<8), moderate (IPSS=8-19) and severe (IPSS=20-35) symptoms. A therapy is usually started from a value greater than 7 and existing distress. Barry MJ et al. The American Urological Association symptom index for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
