Each family was ascertained on an overweight proband between the ages 4-19 y, using a bivariate ascertainment scheme (i.e., obese ≥ 95th percentile for BMI (2000 CDC Growth Reference) and ≥ 85th percentile for FM (CNRC body composition reference database). In addition, families were required to have three or more children between the ages of 4-19 y. Related families were also recruited to expand the relative pair types. Once identified, the obese proband and all siblings, 4 to 19 y of age, and their parents were invited to participate.
